Martha Brown
Martha Brown is Palm Beach County’s first full-time Countywide Reentry Coordinator, and began her work for the Office of the Public Defender, Circuit 15 in December, 2009. She is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the County’s 5-Year Strategic Reentry Plan, and works with law enforcement, corrections, community organizations, faith-based organizations and governmental agencies to align and improve reentry services. Martha has been working to build the capacity of reentry service providers to provide offender employment services, and has facilitated workshops on Probation Requirements; Education and Vocational Training and the National Institute of Correction’s “Building Bridges: Offender Employment Specialist” Training.
Martha is an active volunteer with KAIROS Prison Ministries, which serves the women of Broward Correctional Institution, where she frequently leads the music on KAIROS weekends. Martha also volunteered as a community member with the Toppel Family Foundation “Transition from Jail to Community” pilot program where she provided them with a program evaluation model.
Prior to her job as Countywide Reentry Coordinator, Martha taught Social Sciences to grades 6-12 and was also Artist in Residence for one year at Dreyfoos School of the Arts.
Martha graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Rochester, NY, and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Florida Atlantic University. Martha is customizing her degree to emphasize “Correctional Education” and is a student of the world renowned authorities in Restorative Justice, Dr. Gordon Bazemore and Dr. Mara Schiff.
