 Thomas S. Lanahan III


Thomas Lanahan joined Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) in May 2003, after retiring from ExxonMobil Corporation after 30 years.

 

Thomas is a graduate of the State University of New York’s Maritime Academy in New York City. Thomas served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy.

 

Thomas was employed by the ExxonMobil Corporation from 1972 until 2002.  Thomas held numerous Marketing, and Engineering responsibilities in various ExxonMobil Departments including Aviation and International Marine. Assignments included work locations throughout the United States and Europe.

 

In May of 2003 Thomas became BSO’s Volunteer Services Coordinator in the Department of Detention and Community Control, Programs Unit. In this responsibility Thomas was responsible for the recruitment, training, and security clearances of some annual 500 Volunteers, and Provider Agency Staff Members requiring access to various BSO Detention Facilities to provide support to Inmates.

 

During October of 2005 Thomas Lanahan was promoted to the position of Community Job Development Coordinator, Department of Community Control Administration. Under this position, Thomas has the responsibility for the development of employment opportunities and Programs for Employment Support, and other services to BSO Department of Community Control Clients, as well as other Ex-Offenders returning to the community from various Local, State, and Federal Detention Facilities Nationwide.

 

Outside activities include a number of Board of Director Positions with:

 

Directors of Volunteer Services, and Jaguar of South Florida

 

In addition Thomas serves on the following Re-Entry Organizations:

 

Broward County Re-Entry Coalition

Florida Department of Corrections Re-Entry Advisory Council

United States Attorney’s Office Re-Entry Task Force

Broward County Commissioner’s Sex Offenders Task Force

Member of Planning Committee 2010 Re-Entry Summit Palm Beach

 

In addition to the above responsibilities, consulting services on Ex-Offender Re-Entry issues has been provided to various Florida Counties, including Lee, Palm Beach, Miami Dade, Collier, Orange, and other Counties throughout the United States.

 

Thomas has received several awards for his “Re-Entry” efforts:

  • Children’s Diagnostic and Treatment Center
  • Pride Enterprises
  • American Civil Liberties Union

 

Thomas was appointed as a Notary Public by Governor Jeb Bush, and continues to hold this responsibility.
